WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Sol Ruca has revealed that her new dream opponent is Charlotte Flair, despite being on opposing brands.

Defeating Becky Lynch at WWE Clash in Italy, Sol Ruca captured her first main roster championship at Clash in Italy.

Speaking to Elz (the Witch), Ruca named Charlotte Flair as her new dream opponent, after recently having her dream match against IYO SKY.

The Women’s Intercontinental Champion said:

“Now I’ve had my dream match with IYO SKY – I would love to have more with her – I think now I want to go against Charlotte Flair one-on-one.

“I know we’re on different brands as of right now. I’ve seen her in the ring a few times, in tag matches, in other multi-person matches, but we’ve never had that one-on-one moment, and I think that is my next challenge I want to do.”

Ruca faced IYO SKY on the May 11 episode of WWE Raw, suffering her second main roster loss since being called up in April of this year.

With her third WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship reign at an end, Becky Lynch took to social media to criticize Ruca’s footwear and referee Jessika Carr for the outcome of her match at Clash in Italy.

Ruca will step into the ring with Charlotte Flair in the first round qualifier of the Queen of the Ring Tournament, in a match that also features Jade Cargill and Lyra Valkyria.

The Secondary Championship Shines For The WWE Women’s Roster

It’s curious that WWE didn’t have a secondary championship for its women’s roster until the introduction of the NXT Women’s North American Championship in April 2024, just under a decade after the Women’s Revolution replaced the Divas’ era

The main roster would see its own secondary women’s belts introduced in November 2024, with Raw having the Women’s Intercontinental Championship and SmackDown getting the Women’s United States Championship.

To date, both titles have had multiple champions, with Becky Lynch having held the Women’s Intercontinental Championship three times, and both Chelsea Green and Giulia being two-time Women’s United States Champions.

Arguably, the secondary title could be seen as a second-place prize, yet WWE has showcased the champions in relatively strong positions, with Becky Lynch’s three runs as Women’s Intercontinental Champion and Chelsea Green as a two-time Women’s United States Champion being a fine example of the blend of entertainment and sportsmanship.

With Tiffany Stratton as the current Women’s United States Champion and Sol Ruca holding the Women’s Intercontinental Champion, the future is bright for both stars as they continue to define their respective journeys forward, with the brand’s main women’s titles no doubt in both their sights.
