The Rock Set To Portray Former UFC Fighter In Next Film WWE

A new report has revealed that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to portray a former UFC fighter in his next film.

Back in September 2023, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made his return to WWE on an episode of SmackDown in a segment with Pat McAfee and Austin Theory.

This led many to believe the former multi-time WWE Champion would be making an in-ring return in the near future to face Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

As previously reported, his Seven Bucks Production company is set to start a docu-series on WCW. However, it looks like Johnson’s next film role is already lined up as well.

In a new report by The Hollywood Reporter, The Rock is set to portray a MMA fighter in a drama entitled, “The Smashing Machine,” produced by A24, which is the same studio that made “The Iron Claw” film.

Johnson will team with director Benny Safdie, who famously directed “Uncut Gems.” Safdie also wrote this project.

This new film will be based on “The Smashing Machine,” which is a documentary produced by HBO in 2002 that detailed the professional career and rise in the MMA world of former UFC Heavyweight Champion Mark Kerr.

The documentary also covered Kerr’s addiction to painkillers that led to his overdose. Kerr was known as “The Smashing Machine” because of his fighting style.

Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions will be working Safdie’s’s Out for the Count banner, Eli Bush and David Koplan to produce this film.

The report also notes that The Rock currently has other upcoming projects in Red Notice 2 on Netflix and the Amazon action comedy, Red One.

WrestleTalk will provide further updates on The Rock’s filming and production schedule when they become available.
