After announcing that he’d fired CM Punk earlier today, Tony Khan appeared live in front of the crowd at AEW Collision tonight.

The catch is… Collision is in Punk’s hometown of Chicago, as is tomorrow night’s All Out pay-per-view.

Khan decided he’d speak to the live crowd before Collision actually went on air, which, as you can see in the video below, didn’t go very well.

Collision itself also opened on TV with a pre-recorded message from Khan not in front of the crowd, which you can read at this link.

In the statement AEW released earlier today, which is NOT the same as what Khan said on Collision, he was quoted as saying:

“Phil played an important role within AEW and I thank him for his contributions.

“The termination of his AEW contracts with cause is ultimately my decision, and mine alone.

“Of course, I wish I didn’t have to share this news, which may come as a disappointment to many of our fans.

“Nevertheless, I am making the decision in the best interests of the many amazing people who make AEW possible every week – our talent, staff, venue operators and many others whose efforts are unsung but essential to bringing our fans great shows on television at at arenas and stadiums throughout the world.”

You can see the video of the live reaction to his appearance below.

Some in the venue did mention that at least some fans were applauding Khan by the end.
