WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H has reacted to the announcement of a big debut match taking place at Sunday Night’s Main Event.

The card for Sunday Night’s Main Event show in Atlanta, GA saw a new addition on last night’s episode of SmackDown (August 21), as WWE United States Champion Baron Corbin challenged rapper Lil Yachty to his first-ever match, in his hometown, on September 6.

Not only will the bout give fans a first look at Yachty’s in-ring skills – which he has been working on throughout the year – but it will also carry larger implications for the United States Championship.

If Yachty can survive five minutes in the ring with Corbin in Atlanta, then Trick Williams will receive a future United States Title opportunity, having lost the gold earlier this month at SummerSlam.

After the announcement, Triple H took to Twitter to share the official poster for the match, as well as comment on the fact Yachty is making his WWE in-ring debut.

Referencing the match’s special stipulation, Triple H wrote:

It’s not about having your first match. It’s about survival.

Lil Yachty. Baron Corbin. Sunday Night’s Main Event.

Other matches announced for Sunday Night’s Main Event thus far are: Oba Femi vs. Bron Breakker and Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton.

Lil Yachty Earns Chance To Prove Himself In The Ring

While celebrity involvement in WWE has become overbearing to say the least in the TKO era, some names have genuinely proven themselves to be worthwhile additions to the product.

Most obviously are the likes of Logan Paul and Bad Bunny, but, Lil Yachty is another who deserves his flowers.

Unlike fellow rapper Travis Scott, who’s disastrous WWE involvement took away from some of the company’s biggest moments in years in 2025, Yachty’s presence as Trick Williams’ hype man has only added to the former United States Champion’s rise up the card.

The pair have undeniable chemistry and never once has it felt like WWE are attempting to push Yachty as the star over Williams. Yachty has also been largely consistent in his appearances on WWE programming, unlike other celebrities who don’t prove to have much staying power.

The only time where Yachty’s involvement could be scrutinized would be at Night of Champions, where Ricky Saints was forced to eat a ‘People’s Elboat’ from the rapper, something the former AEW star has yet to truly bounce back from.

While the jury is certainly out on whether ‘Lil Boat’ can offer much as a wrestler, we should get a better idea after Sunday Night’s Main Event, and thankfully, with a five minute time limit, the match will not last long enough to truly take anything away from the quality of the show itself.
