Update On If NXT Wrestlers Will Appear In Royal Rumble Matches

In the last few years, NXT wrestlers have featured in both the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches. These appearances are highly anticipated as they could foreshadow possible main roster call-ups set for later in the year.

With NXT’s obvious omission from Survivor Series 2020, fans are left to speculate whether The Gold Brand will have any presence at the Royal Rumble this year.

It is being reported that NXT wrestlers are not expected to feature in either Royal Rumble match this year. Ringside News, which has a good track record for backstage news in recent times, is reporting that it’s not the plan to have NXT involvement this year, however “everything is being discussed”.

Steve Carrier of Ringside News stated that NXT is not currently in the picture, tweeting:

“WWE has the Royal Rumble to plan. The process…. is going. This will be a big day for exclusives. Let’s start with one… as of this writing, WWE is NOT planning on NXT Superstars in the rumble matches. Plans could change, cause it’s WWE, but right now they’re not in the picture”

It was noted however that in recent years, NXT talent didn’t know of their involvement in the Rumbles until very close to the event anyway. If NXT involvement is always a last minute decision, this choice might change as we approach January 31.

NXT talent were excluded from Survivor Series out of fears of cross contamination. If The Gold Brand is to have a presence at Royal Rumble, more thorough COVID-19 safety precautions will most likely be introduced backstage.
