A backstage update has revealed Vince McMahon’s involvement in Cody Rhodes WWE return negotiations.
Rhodes made his WWE return at WrestleMania 38, following his departure from AEW in February.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed that McMahon personally flew out to meet with Rhodes in the midst of discussions:
“There have been little hints of a hurdle Khan and Rhodes couldn’t get through. But whatever the actual thing that changed negotiations was, or if it was simply WWE working so hard at getting him including Vince McMahon flying down to see him, isn’t clear.
“There is obviously something between Rhodes and Khan that was key and that both had promised never to talk about publicly. It may never come out, although things like this usually do at some point, even if that may take a while.
On Monday’s edition of Raw, Rhodes vowed to win the WWE Championship in tribute to his late father, Dusty Rhodes, in a promo that the former AEW EVP has now stated was unscripted.
Rhodes has since noted that he needed to return to WWE as he feels he has a limited time left in the ring.
