Here’s When WWE Became Interested In Signing Dragon Lee AAA

An update has emerged on WWE signing Dragon Lee, revealing when WWE first became interested in signing the luchador.

After Dragon Lee announced that he was WWE-bound at a recent AAA event, WWE has been touting Lee as a major acquisition.

The newest NXT star has held championships all over the world, for the likes of AAA, ROH, NJPW and CMLL.

Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE recently expressed interest in Lee following his appearances on AEW TV.

Noting that WWE had previously been interested in Lee while he was with NJPW, Meltzer wrote:

“WWE had expressed interest in Lee because they were aware he was on AEW television recently but had no contract.

“There was interest in Lee in the past, but at the time he was loyal to New Japan, plus he got a much better offer from ROH than WWE offered him when he was negotiating in the past with Canyon Ceman.

“But then ROH basically shut down.”

Dragon Lee notably wrestled for NJPW from 2017 to 2020, with his most recent bout for the promotion taking place at NJPW New Beginning In Osaka 2020.

Lee visited AEW during the summer, teaming with Andrade El Idolo and his brother RUSH to face Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks at the August 17 Dynamite: House of the Dragon special.

He had previously wrestled RUSH at the July 23 ROH Death Before Dishonor event.
