Current IWGP UK (US) Champion Will Ospreay has weighed in on the wrestler of the year debate, taking aim at two major AEW stars.
Responding to a Twitter user who asked whether the NJPW star deserves to be recognised as the best wrestler of 2023 over the likes of Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson, the Aerial Assassin poked fun at the two AEW stars’ limited in-ring schedules.
Ospreay tweeted:
I drop classics by farting bruv
They drop (a) classic and need 6 weeks off
The Twitter user then replied pointing out that Ospreay has wrestled 45 times in 2023, compared to Omega’s 20 and Danielson’s 10, highlighting the United Empire frontman’s prolific streak this year.
In that time Ospreay has defeated a who’s who of notable wrestling names including Kazuchika Okada, Tetsuya Naito, Chris Jericho and of course Kenny Omega at AEW Forbidden Door in June.
Ospreay’s 2023 has also seen him compete for numerous promotions across the world, as well as both AEW and NJPW, the 30-year-old has competed for the likes of Rev Pro and PROGRESS in his native England.
In the build to Ospreay’s match with Chris Jericho at All In on August 27, the Essex native would reveal that his contract with NJPW was set to expire, perhaps spelling a potential move to AEW or elsewhere in the future.
