AJ Styles Confirms He Co-Produced Recent WWE Championship Match

WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles has confirmed that he co-produced a recent championship match which took place on NXT.

Over recent weeks, Lola Vice has seemingly finished up her time in AAA, with her match on this week’s NXT likely to be her last.

The August 4 episode of WWE NXT would see Lola Vice challenge NXT Women’s Champion Kendal Grey in an Underground match.

With Grey retaining the NXT Women’s Championship, Vice would say goodbye to the fans when the show went off her, with her boyfriend, Damian Priest, embracing the star in footage shared on Twitter.

The producers for the Underground match have now been revealed by one half of the team, the WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles, speaking on his AJ Styles Show podcast, saying:

“Yeah, there were two of us, two producers in that match: (Johnny) Moss and myself. Listen, there’s not much you need to do in a match like this because these girls are so good. But if you watch it, there are some sprinkles of AJ Styles in there that you’ll go ‘ Oh, yeah that makes sense.’ But the truth is Moss and I didn’t have to do very much because they are so good at what they do.”

“Kendal’s not just a wrestler, by the way, she does all kinds of mixed martial arts, and you can tell when she starts throwing punches, you’re like ‘Wait a second.’ And then Lola is the same (with) MMA, she can throw, and her kicks are just freaking awesome. When you see them, you go ‘Hold on a second, that doesn’t look fake at all.’ The way they do certain things is just unbelievable, and this match that they had, whoever came up with it and put them in it, perfect. It was perfect; they’re so good.”

A wrestling star in his own right, Johnny Moss became a full-time coach at the WWE Performance Center in 2017, having previously performed around the globe and trained the likes of Finn Balor and Noam Dar early in their respective careers as independent wrestlers.

Styles would also comment on his current role in WWE, which sees him take on coaching on a temporary basis.

The Rise of Lola Vice

A mixed martial artist, the star now known as Lola Vice first attended a WWE tryout over WrestleMania 38 weekend in March 2022, signing a developmental contract later that year.

A former NXT Women’s Champion, it should come as little surprise that Vice was destined for the main roster, the pathway that WWE frequently uses from its developmental program to Raw and SmackDown.

Her time in AAA would see her stand alongside Mr. Iguana, himself a popular star in the Mexico-based company, as World Mixed Tag Team Champion, an indication of the faith WWE has in the Latina star.

Over the past four years, Vice has continued to perform, not just on NXT television, but on the untelevised house show circuit, no doubt enhancing her already formidable skills in front of a live audience and “getting the reps in”, preparing her for what is to come on either Raw or SmackDown.

Moving from the stewardship of Shawn Michaels in NXT to a product overseen by Triple H, there’s every opportunity for Lola Vice to find her way to a prominent position on the main roster.
