WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles has reacted to Will Ospreay using the Styles Clash in his match against Samoa Joe at AEW Double or Nothing.

Will Ospreay defeated Samoa Joe to advance in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament at the May 24 pay-per-view.

En route to victory, Ospreay hit Samoa Joe with a Styles Clash. While the former AEW International Champion has used the Styles Clash on numerous occasions in recent years, this particular spot was seen as even more of a tribute to AJ Styles, with Ospreay using it to take down one of Styles’ biggest career rivals.

AJ Styles commented on this spot on his Phenomenally Retro podcast, stating that Will Ospreay and Samoa Joe pulled it off flawlessly.

Styles stated:

“I’ve seen the Styles Clash onto Joe. I can tell you, hitting Joe with the Styles Clash is not an easy task.

“I’ve done it a couple times in my career, but man, he pulled it off flawlessly.”

Following this match, Samoa Joe announced an in-ring hiatus, with the reason for his absence now potentially revealed.

Styles has stated on numerous occasions that he likes to see wrestlers using moves he popularized during his own career, believing that it shows his impact on the business.

The Phenomenal One stated that “if nothing else, it shows appreciation” following Ospreay using the Styles Clash against MJF in July 2024.

Michin – Styles’ previous on-screen protege – notably used the move during her six-woman tag team match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, after which she took to Twitter to share love for AJ.

With a number of wrestlers now using moves which felt closely tied to AJ Styles, it feels like a piece of him lives on in the wrestling, despite him stepping away from the ring in January.
