Midcard
The Miz kicked off this week’s show, promoting his match against Seth Rollins on Sunday, before bringing down Jeff Hardy. The Charismatic Enigma ran down the Miz, calling him a smug egotist, and saying Seth Rollins was the superior Intercontinental Champion.
The Miz tried to get a rise out of Hardy by bringing out Randy Orton, but Orton said there was no issue between the two aside from the fact that Jeff was champion, and Orton wanted to be. This was a simple, yet effective way to build to their Backlash encounter.
Shelton Benjamin came out, and an impromptu tag match was made. Although this would be the only in-ring segment featuring the midcard scene (which could easily be the main event scene if it was for the top title instead), it was given ample time and made up the first half hour of the 2-hour show.
