Former WWE Star Says Working There Was ‘Still A 9-To-5’ WWE

A former WWE star has described viewing wrestling for the company as “still a 9-to-5” and not, as others may think, “the greatest job ever”.

Erick Rowan signed a developmental contract with WWE in early 2011 before moving to the new NXT brand in 2012.

He would largely be associated with the Wyatt Family, led by Bray Wyatt.

On the Ten Count podcast, Rowan, also known as Erick Redbeard, would address his time in WWE, saying:

“I’ve always been a business guy.

“I go to work, and I’m professional, nice to everybody, treat everybody, like, with respect.

“It’s work.

“You do the best of your ability per day, you improve on what you have to do.”

Rowan would then go on to discuss his working relationship with Triple H, explaining:

“When you talk about relationships [with Triple H], it was cordial, it was business, and that’s all it was.

“People say, ‘Oh, it’s the greatest job ever,’ no, it’s still a 9-to-5, it’s still going to work.

“You get your list of what you do.

“It’s a job and you perform your job to the best of your abilities.”

He would, however, positively comment on the changes to WWE since Triple H became WWE’s Chief Content Officer, concluding:

“If things are better now and you’re able to have a little bit more creative input, that’s even better.

“I’m happy as hell for those people because then they’re able to get across these things and maybe put on a way better show.”

Rowan would be released by WWE in 2020 due to “budget cuts” and would return to the independent circuit.

Whilst in WWE, he would hold the NXT Tag Team Championship with Luke Harper (the late Brodie Lee in AEW).

He would hold WWE SmackDown Team Championship on two occasions: once with Harper and once with Daniel Bryan.

He would make a small number of appearances for AEW, including at the Brodie Lee Celebration of Life episode of AEW Dynamite on December 30 2020.

He was last seen in AEW in August 2022 where he teamed with Danhausen.

The team of Beardhausen took on The Gunn Club (Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn) but were defeated on AEW Rampage.
