A former WWE star returned to the ring on Friday night (November 17) after three years out of action.
Independent wrestling veteran Chris Hero, known to WWE NXT fans as Kassius Ohno, stepped back in between the ropes at Friday’s West Coast Pro Whiplash event.
Hero was ultimately victorious, forcing fellow former NXT star Timothy Thatcher to tap out with a Fujiwara armbar.
This contest marked Hero’s first match in over three years, and his first since leaving WWE.
Following the bout, Hero took off his boots before admitting that he was teasing the fans by pretending to retire.
Hero then announced that he will return to the ring at the December 3 West Coast Pro show to team with KENTA to face off against Kevin Blackwood and Titus Alexander.
After four years with the company, Hero’s latest WWE run ended in April 2020, when he was released from his contract during the first round of COVID-19 pandemic-related cuts.
He last wrestled at the March 7, 2020 NXT UK taping, competing in an NXT UK Title #1 contender’s battle royal.
Hero worked behind the scenes with several different promotions since leaving WWE, notably joining AEW as a producer/coach in July.
With Hero now with AEW in a full-time capacity, Tony Khan previously commented on the possibility of Chris Hero wrestling for AEW.
