WWE
A top WWE star and a notable celebrity guest have been confirmed to be appearing at this week’s Saturday Night’s Main Event in New York City on July 18.
For the first time since WWE brought back Saturday Night’s Event in December 2024, the company will be hosting the show in ‘The World’s Most Famous Arena’ Madison Square Garden this Saturday.
Three matches have been confirmed for the show as of the time of writing, with New York’s new favorite Danhausen taking on JD McDonagh, Fatal Influence challenging Brie Bella and Paige for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles and new Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk teaming up with Cody Rhodes against the team of GUNTHER and Sami Zayn.
But that won’t be all that the MSG fans will be treated to however, as WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns took to social media today to announce that he too will be appearing at Saturday Night’s Main Event, along with New York Knicks point guard and WWE fan Jalen Brunson.
Posting on Twitter, Reigns wrote:
The OTC
The King of New York @jalenbrunson1
The Mecca …. MSG @TheGarden
Let’s have the whole world ACKNOWLEDGE us at @WWE
Saturday Night’s Main Event!
#SNME #TribalChief
Brunson would then confirm his appearance, writing in response:
See you there
WWE.com has now also confirmed Reigns and Brunson’s appearance at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, writing the following in their official preview:
“This Saturday at Madison Square Garden, The OTC Roman Reigns and The King of New York Jalen Brunson will join up for an acknowledgment fit for The World’s Most Famous Arena.
“Reigns extended the invite on social media, and Brunson accepted. Now, the World Heavyweight Champion will have the leader of the NBA Champion New York Knicks by his side at The Mecca.
“What will Brunson have in store when he rolls into MSG with The Tribal Chief? Don’t miss Saturday Night’s Main Event streaming this Saturday at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Peacock.”
A Different Role Than Expected For Jalen Brunson At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event
Given Jalen Brunson’s fandom for WWE, relationship with the company and recent NBA Finals success with the New York Knicks, few will be surprised to see him announced for Saturday Night’s Main Event in MSG.
However, considering Danhausen’s much discussed role in aiding the Knicks’ NBA Finals run, the assumption from many fans has been that Brunson may be the one to aid the ‘Very Nice, Very Evil’ star in his fight against The Judgment Day – with Danhausen set to go one-on-one with JD McDonagh at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
While that could still happen of course, Brunson being advertised to appear alongside Roman Reigns certainly suggests WWE have different plans for ‘The King of New York.’
As seen recently with comedian Eric Andre, celebrity involvement in Bloodline affairs isn’t guaranteed to end well, but given that WWE are in Brunson’s house of MSG, he should be safe from any beatings from ‘The Samoan Werewolf’ Jacob Fatu.
