WWE SmackDown Live In Brief: July 31, 2018

We all know that Randy Orton hates earlobes, but apparently he also hates facepaint.

Now that he’s a heel, is interesting and actually cares about what he’s doing, the Viper is back to his best and it’s great to see.

Jeff Hardy came out for a classic “I’ll defy the odds to get my title back” promo, calling out Randy to answer for his sins. Thankfully for Jeff there aren’t any other heels that might sneak up on him.

OH WAIT.

US Champion Shinsuke Nakamura attacked him from behind before delivering a Kinshasa kick. Orton then piled the misery onto Jeff, savagely attacking him before pouring water on his face and wiping off his facepaint. Wonderful heel stuff, and a triple threat match for the US Title at SummerSlam is looking ever likelier.

Elsewhere, The Bar made their return after a few weeks out to face off against the Usos in an attempt to move to the next round of the SmackDown Live tag team tournament.

The duo picked up the win and will now face The New Day for a shot at the Bludgeon Brothers’ titles at SummerSlam. The Bar should win this – either so that they can finally be real opponents for the Hammer Men, or so that Harper and Rowan can say that they have beaten every single team on SmackDown Live.
