WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Sol Ruca has explained the stories behind her Sol Snatcher finisher and her ring name.

Ruca continues to make a name for herself after officially being called up to the WWE main roster after WrestleMania 42.

Already, Ruca is the Women’s Intercontinental Champion after defeating Becky Lynch at Clash In Italy this past Sunday.

Speaking on the newest episode of No-Contest Wrestling, Ruca was asked about how she came up with her unique Sol Snatcher finisher. She explained:

“I was thinking about a finish. Obviously I wanted something that I could do on anyone no matter if they’re bigger than me, smaller than me. Something that was unique to my background, something that was unique to me and you don’t see every day.

“So I was kind of brainstorming and going through my head about some of the things I used to love doing in gymnastics, and how I could translate that into wrestling.

“And that’s kind of where the Sol Snatcher came from, is an old move I used to do on the bars called a straddle-back, where essentially I’m doing a reverse gainer where I’m moving backwards flipping forwards, instead of moving forwards flipping backwards if that makes sense.

“And instead of catching a bar, I’m catching humans. So, that’s kind of where it came from.”

The Story Of Sol Ruca’s Ring Name

In the same interview, Ruca was asked about her WWE ring name and the process of how that coming together, revealing that the idea is a translation for ‘Sun Girl.’

She said:

“In NXT, they have us send in five first names, five last names, and then they will give you a few options based on that.

“When I was putting in the names, I just wanted something that fit my gimmick in a sense. I feel like my gimmick is myself, so something that is beachy, a little bit edgy, a little bit different.

“Sol obviously means ‘sun.’ And then Ruca is the name of my favorite surf brand, but it also means like ‘chick’ or ‘your girl.’

“So it’s like, ‘Sun Lady, Sun Girl,’ something like that. A little different.”
