Video: William Regal Opens Up About Vince McMahon And Leaving WWE AEW/WWE

Footage from Inside The Ropes Live show with William Regal from October 2022 has revealed interesting details about Regal’s WWE departure.

Following a twenty-two-year run with the company in which Regal proved to be one of the most valuable and respected employees the company had, Regal would be released in January 2022.

Speaking to Kenny McIntosh, Regal discussed his relationship with Vince McMahon, particularly during the final days of his time in WWE, saying:

“There was a particular person who is no longer there now and certainly not the boss.

“I can’t tell you, but it was nothing to do with him why I’m not there.

“He looked after me very, very well on the way out.”

Speaking of his release, Regal discussed plans to take a year off, though an offer from Bryan Danielson would change that.

Although he had been released, his talent contract was still in effect until April 2022.

He spoke of the steps that led his conversation with Vince McMahon that allowed him a privileged position in the annals of wrestling history, saying:

“Mr McMahon was good to me.

“He was excellent to me.

“I had a talent contract as well as an employee contract.

“And, it didn’t run out until the end of April.

“I started for AEW on… the 7th March.

“I didn’t call anyone else.

“I just sent a message to the boss.

“‘Hey boss, I’ve got this opportunity for this thing with Bryan’.

“And, he loves Bryan, too.

“He said ‘Absolutely, you go.’

“And, he still paid me to the end of my talent contract.

“I was the only person to get paid by both companies at the same time.”

Regal’s time with AEW would be short though impactful.

He is reportedly due to return to WWE, though not as an onscreen personality, in January 2023.
