Several changes have been made to the original planned card for WWE Survivor Series.
The Wrestling Observer reports that Shinsuke Nakamura was originally not set to be part of the three-way match also including AJ Styles and Roderick Strong.
Nakamura was initially going to drop the title and would be replaced in the match. Although this was not confirmed as fact, the most likely name to have done that would be Daniel Bryan.
Bryan was involved in somewhat of a program with Nakamura and his mouthpiece Sami Zayn, but that has since been dropped and instead Bryan will challenge The Fiend Bray Wyatt for the Universal Championship.
Prior to the widely documented Saudi Arabia travel mess following Crown Jewel, The Miz was initially slated to challenge Wyatt, and the build to that would have started on the SmackDown after Crown Jewel.
Of course, Wyatt didn’t return in time, and that show had to be rewritten around an NXT invasion and the Wyatt vs. Miz match is off. It is, however, still being promoted for many house shows, so could take place further down the line.
