SoCal Uncensored is reporting that WWE has signed independent star Mercedes Martinez, a 20-year veteran.
Martinez has wrestled all around the world for companies such as Shimmer, Ring of Honor, World Xtreme Wrestling, Women Superstars Uncensored, Beyond Wrestling, and is the current AWS Heavyweight Champion.
She was also part of the AEW Women’s Battle Royal at Double or Nothing earlier this year, but no permanent deal was agreed upon.
Martinez has been a part of both Mae Young Classic tournaments, and has appeared on NXT on a number of occasions.
SoCal Uncensored’s report reads:
Sources have confirmed that WWE has signed independent wrestler and current AWS Heavyweight Champion Mercedes Martinez to a contract. She is expected to report to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL this month.
Martinez, who is widely regarded as one of the top wrestlers on the independents, has previously wrestled for WWE and their NXT brand on several occasions, including taking part in the first two Mae Young Classics. In the inaugural Mae Young Classic, she made it to the semi-finals where she was defeated by Shayna Baszler.
