Maria Kanellis and husband Mike Kanellis were two of the people released by WWE on the infamous “black Wednesday” on April 15.
Neither had been used very much on TV, especially Maria, who had taken several months out due to falling pregnant, something she says WWE was absolutely fine with her doing.
Maria and Mike have since started a podcast called “Non-Essential Wrestlers”, and has teased that she has some strong thoughts on WWE’s decision to release her just two months after she gave birth and during a pandemic.
She tweeted:
“Did you ever hear the one about the woman that was released from WWE during a pandemic 2 months postpartum after being told having another baby wasn’t an issue…? #milkmoney #moreonthatlater #onlywrestlingcompanythatreleasedpeople #NonEssentialFamily”
One fan tried to come to WWE’s aid by saying she was released as part of cost cutting measures, to which Maria replied by pointing out that WWE made record profits this financial year, and that no other companies released anyone.
It will be interesting to see what Mike and Maria have to say on the matter when it is discussed on their podcast. If you’d like to be notified of when the podcast goes live, you can check it out here.
