New Japan Pro Wrestling’s biggest show of the year is still set to go ahead despite the pandemic. Their shows have not been held at full capacity and that will again be the case with Wrestle Kingdom 15.
The two-night event will take place on January 4 and 5 and will be held with a capacity of 20,000 fans. In an interview with Tokyo Sports, New Japan Pro Wrestling President Takami Obari made the announcement. The venue can typically hold up to 50,000 fans.
New Japan shows have not permitted fans to cheer or boo vocally since their return. While this has affected the shows somewhat, most performers have found creative ways to get fans involved.
Wrestle Kingdom 15 will be the culmination of New Japan’s biggest storylines. The current main event should be Kota Ibushi challenging Tetsuya Naito for the IWGP Double Championship. However, the card could change dramatically depending on the results of Power Struggle.
Ibushi must first defend hit title shot against Jay White, who defeated him in the G1 Climax. Meanwhile, Naito must also defend the IWGP Double Championship against EVIL. No official matches have been announced for Wrestle Kingdom.
