Jeff Hardy has been a mainstay of WWE WrestleMania shows since he returned at WrestleMania 33 alongside his brother Matt, but he was nowhere to be seen at this year’s show.
Unfortunately the reason for this is very sad, as Jeff was attending the funeral of his father, Gilbert, who passed away on April 6 at the age of 87.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer said:
Claude Gilbert Hardy (known as Gilbert Hardy), the father of Matt & Jeff, passed away on 4/6 at the age of 87. The funeral was held 4/11 which is why Jeff wasn’t at WrestleMania. Jeff was supposed to be in the Battle Royal, which was taped on 4/2, but wasn’t there.
WWE were obviously more than happy to let Jeff have the weekend off to attend his father’s funeral. Both Matt and Jeff have thanked fans on Twitter for their support during this difficult time for their family.
We would also like to extend our condolences to the entire Hardy family.
