It seems that Roderick Strong has moved from NXT 2.0 to NXT UK, and he could be there to stay for quite a while.
Announced on NXT UK’s Twitter, Strong is set to continue to appear for the international brand. In a backstage interview, Strong was asked about his plans in NXT UK, to which he replied:
“The thing I’m looking most forward to is testing myself against all these unfamiliar opponents, and then beating the NXT UK Champion Ilja Dragunov and becoming your new NXT UK Champion because I’m all about the big money fights and it’s Diamond Mine forever.”
Roderick Strong made his NXT UK in-ring debut on this week’s episode, where he defeated Wolfgang in the main event, after which he issued a challenge to the NXT UK champ, saying:
“Ilja Dragunov I would like to have a challenge, the ball is in your court.”
WWE released a “digital exclusive” clip of the comments on Twitter with Ilja Dragunov nodding, seemingly setting up the beginnings of their future feud.
It could be that Strong is just set for an ‘extended’ NXT UK run, and may move back to the US after the eventual match with Dragunov, but he’ll at least be staying on the UK brand for the time being.
Strong was recently looked at for a WWE main roster run and had matches on Main Event, but it seems this different direction was chosen instead.
Former NXT UK Heritage Cup Champion A-Kid recently traveled in the opposite direction, having made his NXT 2.0 debut this week with a win over Kushida.
