Backstage details have emerged on a pitch for Gable Steveson’s potential in-ring debut at WrestleMania 38.
While WWE has not officially announced the Olympic Champion for the events, Steveson has stated on multiple occasions that he plans to attend the April 2-3 shows.
Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there was a pitch for Steveson to pick up a quick victory over Omos at WrestleMania.
Stating that this is not the current plan, Meltzer noted:
“You don’t know how many people, including those in the company, have suggested or talked about having Steveson debut at Mania and just slam and pin Omos in 20 seconds to get his career going. But that is not the current plan.”
Omos hasn’t suffered a singles defeat since his disqualification loss against Randy Orton on the August 16, 2021 edition of Raw.
Ahead of Steveson joining WWE full-time, the Olympic gold medalist has addressed the possibility of a WWE name change, with former Raw Tag Team Champion Chad Gable an established star on the Red Brand.
