Report: Vince McMahon Rejected Pitch For Big Angle Featured On SummerSlam WWE

After the first match of the night, the Triple H era of WWE became abundantly clear as a new powerful trio hit the WWE SummerSlam stage.

In a new report from Fightful Select, backstage details have been revealed regarding the formation of a new WWE power trio that debuted tonight (July 30) at WWE SummerSlam.

After the WWE Raw Women’s Championship match saw Bianca Belair pull out a victory via pinfall over Becky Lynch, we also saw Lynch congratulate Belair before leaving the ring.

Belair’s celebration would be short-lived however as she was greeted by returning WWE stars, Bayley, Dakota Kai and Io Shirai debuting the new name, IYO SKY.

Now per Fightful Select, backstage details as to how the debut came to be have been revealed.

According to the report, Bayley has been back at the WWE Performance Center for weeks in preparation for her impending return to the ring.

As far as Dakota Kai, according to the report while she had introductory talks to AEW and had some on their roster pushing for her to join, it didn’t go further than that. She was a name that others backstage in WWE including writers expected would be called up to the main roster before she was released by the company. She was a name that several people in the company that Fightful spoke to mentioned as someone that Triple H would “make a priority to bring back.”

While IYO SKY’s contract wasn’t yet up with WWE, she had been off of NXT 2.0 television, leading some to wonder about her future before her appearance at SummerSlam although officials gave an inconclusive answer when asked about her contract status.

Interestingly enough, the trio had already been pitched to Vince McMahon and he rejected it.

The report notes that before Dakota’s release, there were versions of the stable that included Raquel Rodriguez and Kay Lee Ray that were pitched to Vince McMahon however he rejected them, opting instead for the call up of Raquel and the repackage of KLR to her current character, Alba Fyre.
