Here are the latest updates on Mercedes Varnado’s (Sasha Banks) status for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider recently provided a huge update on Varnado’s wrestling future, reporting that ‘several sources close to the situation’ expect the former WWE Women’s Champion to be at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.
Fightful Select (subscription required) then provided an interesting update, noting that their NJPW sources wouldn’t confirm or deny whether there were plans for Banks to appear at the Tokyo Dome show.
Dave Meltzer initially noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that ‘nobody there’ in NJPW knew about plans for Varnado ahead of PWInsider’s report.
Meltzer now reports that Varnado at the January 4, 2023 show is indeed happening.
Taking to Twitter, Dave Meltzer wrote:
“Sasha Banks at Tokyo Dome news Mike Johnson first reported is confirmed.”
While it is currently unclear what Varnado will do at Wrestle Kingdom 17, it has been speculated that she will confront KAIRI, who will be defending the IWGP Women’s Championship on the show.
