A WWE star has revealed that their tag team was “shoehorned” into a showcase match at WrestleMania 39 in April 2023.
Night 1 of WrestleMania 39 featured the Men’s WrestleMania Showcase fatal four-way tag team match as the second match on the card.
The match would see Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar), Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford), Alpha Academy (Chad Gable & Otis) and Braun Strowman & Ricochet collide, with the Street Profits being victorious.
Having made his return in September 2022 following a difficult period away from WWE, Braun Strowman has revealed that he and Ricochet were “shoehorned” into the match.
Speaking to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Strowman spoke about his love of WWE, saying:
“I love this. I’ve said it time and time again, I truly believe I was put on this earth to do this and for this company.”
He would then go on to discuss his involvement in WrestleMania 39, revealing:
“I’m walking into WrestleMania now, things were uncertain about what was going to happen at WrestleMania, but now we figured out a way, we got shoehorned in last minute.
“It’s so awesome because I’ve had my WrestleMania moments, and now I get the opportunity to go out there and share them with some guys that haven’t had their WrestleMania moments. Guys that have been in the business for many, many years, busting their ass, day in and day out on the indies, in the Performance Center, and now on the main roster.
“Now I have the opportunity to go out there and share this special moment. [I know from my first WrestleMania how special it is].”
In the interview with Fightful, Strowman also revealed that his leg is partially paralyzed.
Strowman recently underwent neck fusion surgery and provided an update on his progress.
As previously noted, Strowman’s last match came on May 1 and he’s been out of action since then, and that was actually only his second match back after suffering a concussion just over a week earlier.
