10 Will Ospreay Matches You HAVE TO Watch

3. Will Ospreay vs. Kazuchika Okada – G1 Climax 29 Day 7

In 2018, Kazuchika Okada said Will Ospreay could be the best wrestler in the world in five years. A year and a half later, he may have achieved that feat. Ospreay’s run in the G1 Climax didn’t feature a ton of wins but it did feature amazing performances. This was the best of them.

These two are arguably the best wrestlers in the world right now and they proved why in this match. People believed this could be the first time the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion would defeat the IWGP Heavyweight Champion. While that didn’t occur on this night, Ospreay proved he was on the level of the best heavyweight champion in New Japan history.

2. Will Ospreay vs. Zack Sabre Jr. – RevPro High Stakes 2020

While his New Japan accomplishments have clearly meant a great deal to him, Ospreay’s match with Zack Sabre Jr. was the culmination of a long journey. After he nearly defeated Sabre at New Beginning in Sapporo, Ospreay took on Sabre one more time in their native England. Would he finally be able to capture the RevPro British Heavyweight Championship?

Ospreay had never been able to claim the title as his own and in order to do it, he would have to defeat the man that historically had had his number. Sabre is a fantastic opponent for him as their styles mesh well and when you have an emotional crowd you have the formula for a classic match. That is exactly what we got here.

1. Will Ospreay vs. Shingo Takagi – Best of the Super Juniors XXVI Final

Shingo Takagi had gone undefeated in the Best of the Super Juniors XXVI. Hell, since debuting in New Japan the prior October, he had never been pinned or submitted. In order for Ospreay to win the tournament, he would have to slay the dragon.

This is the greatest match in Best of the Super Juniors history. It won the match of the year in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter awards and it is hard to argue otherwise. This match was awe-inspiring. The story was so simple yet effective. Takagi was large and strong and Ospreay had to utilize his speed and agility to try and win.

Combine that with the elite level of talent on display with these two men and you have one of the best matches of all time. In his career, Will Ospreay has never been this triumphant.
