Okada Becomes Will Ospreay?! – G1 Climax August 5 RESULTS

Hangman Page vs. Minoru Suzuki

Hangman Page pinned Minoru Suzuki in a fun brawl with an effective “young vs. old gun” story.

The match immediately began with a brawl to the outside. Page dragged Suzuki to the front of the stage area, pumped up the crowd, and did a beautiful moonsault onto Suzuki and El Desperado. More brawling ensued as Suzuki gained the advantage. He employed the same tactics he used against Okada, burying Page in chairs and guard rails. It’s a wonder Minoru hasn’t been booked in an empty arena match, you’d think he’d thrive in that.

Page and Suzuki made their way back to the ring, and Suzuki took control, offering strikes and slaps. He tossed Page into the turnbuckle, but Page got a surge of strength and knocked Suzuki out with a lariat. The two got back to their feet, and momentum shifted Page’s way, as he got a flurry of attacks on Suzuki. The crowd were into Page as they’ve been this entire tour.

Suzuki regained control and locked in a submission before kicking Page while he was down, telling him to “get up, boy. Come on.” On his feet, Page exchange stiff strikes with Suzuki, who beckoned him to “give up,” to which Page spat in his face. Suzuki responded by striking Page even harder. Suzuki locked in a rear chokehold and attempted a Gotch-style Piledriver, but Page escaped and hit a rolling elbow and superkick.

Page was able to hit the Buckshot Lariat, but before he could hit Rite of Passage, Suzuki escape and reapplied a chokehold. Seemingly knocking his opponent out, Suzuki again went for the GSP, but Page escape and hit Rite of Passage for the clean win.

The ending was incredibly abrupt for my taste, but it was a nice victory for Page, who has shown he can hang with main-eventers.
