AEW’s Adam Cole isn’t likely to be making a return in the near future and has now been taken off television to aid recovery.
Cole had previously undergone complex surgery on his ankle with no details given for a planned in-ring return.
Despite this, he had continued to be a presence in AEW, being revealed as the “devil” in MJF’s storyline and forming the Undisputed Kingdom.
With his last match taking place at AEW All Out in September 2023, it looks like it’ll be a longer wait for his in-ring return.
According to Fightful Select‘s sources, Cole will be taken off television, having not been seen recently.
The report also notes that sources have stated “he’s not very close to coming back to the ring.”
The reason for taking him “off the road” is that it was reportedly “slowing the progression he was making towards recovering from the injury.”
There is still, according to Fightful Select, “no specific timetable” for Cole’s return, although he could still appear on television.
Adam Cole made his AEW debut in September 2021 at All Out, joining The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) and going on to form The Undisputed Elite.
His run with the group would come to an end in August 2022, with Cole taking time off to recover from a concussion sustained at June’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
Cole would return in January 2023 and would team with MJF later that year, forming Better Than You Bay Bay, going on to win the ROH World Tag Team Championship.
At AEW Worlds End on December 30, 2023, Adam Cole would be revealed as The Devil, turning his back on MJF.
Footage from his explanation of the betrayal can be seen below this news story.
WrestleTalk wishes Adam Cole well in his recovery from injury.
