AEW star Bobby Lashley has commented on Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of the New Day’s WWE departures this past weekend.

On Saturday, the wrestling world was in shock when it was announced that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of the New Day had mutually agreed to part ways with the company.

The departure came after the pair were reportedly asked to take an altered contract offer from TKO, with the pair opting not to do so.

Bobby Lashley Calls New Day’s WWE Departure A ‘Horrible Move’

There has been a ‘lot of excitement’ from people in AEW about the pair potentially joining the company, and one former rival of the duo has now weighed in.

Speaking to Good Karma Wrestling, AEW’s Bobby Lashley was asked about Kofi and Woods’ departure, with him calling it a ‘horrible move’ that could end up being great for ‘someone else’.

He said:

“It’s one of those things where it’s like, that was a fumble. That was a fumble. Bro, you retire those guys, you take those guys to the end and give them whatever they want, because they’ve given the business everything. I don’t think there’s a person in the business that says ‘hey I don’t like those guys’, ‘those guys treated me wrong’, ‘those guys weren’t good to me’. There’s no-one.

“We saw that one time before when someone else got released. They had to bring him back because they were like ‘oh that was a bad move’, well this is a horrible move also, but it could be a great move for someone else, you know.

“At the end of the day, we might see some different mix ups and the tag team division might become really, really, really strong and interesting in AEW, and if so, a tremendous amount of fans will go over there because they’ll start saying ‘hmm, what’s going on, isn’t this business built out of respect?’

“If you have respect for the business you have respect for the people in the business, and these guys should have a lot of respect in the business, so what’s going on?”

AEW’s Thriving Tag Team Division

With The Young Bucks being EVPs in the company, tag team wrestling was always going to be a priority in All Elite Wrestling, and it seems as though we could be set for a major resurgence of tag team wrestling in the company in the coming months.

After a down few years for the division, AEW’s tag team division consists of many great duos, including the Young Bucks, FTR, Adam Copeland & Christian Cage, Brodido, JetSpeed, Hurt Syndicate and many more.

Adding the New Day and Motor City Machine Guns, two all-time great tag teams, to the division after WWE just handed them both to the company on a silver platter, and it seems as though AEW’s 2026 tag team division could be among one of the best of all time.
