AEW Star Teases Championship Challenge

An AEW star has teased a challenge for his former championship in the aftermath of events at All In: London at Wembley Stadium.

Taking place on August 30, All In: London will see Kyle Fletcher defend the International Championship against Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita.

In a recent interview with Poisonrana, Orange Cassidy looked back at his International Championship reign and what may be to come, saying:

“I look at where that championship is now and, right now, it’s on the shoulder of one of the best wrestling today and it’s going to be defended in a triple threat match at this beautiful stadium against Okada and Konosuke Takeshita.

“Like, we’re talking about the best of the best of the best in the world, wrestling for that.

“It makes me feel good that, like, oh, yeah, you know, I had a little, I helped to do that.

“Yes, it also makes me feel like maybe I should take that back.”

Cassidy is a two-time International Champion, being the second AEW star to hold the title after defeating Pac at the October 12, 2022 episode of Dynamite and holding it for the first time across a 326 day reign. He would go on to recapture the title at Dynamite Title Tuesday in October 2023, defeating Rey Fenix and holding the title for 145 until his loss to Roderick Strong.

The Success Of A Divisive Star

Orange Cassidy is a star who has occasionally been divisive among wrestling fans, with some enjoying what he offers and others not enamored by his laid-back, hands-in-jean-pockets offence.

Regardless of which side of the fence any fan sits on, he has show the quality of his work since first appearing at Double or Nothing in May 2019 and, without altering his approach greatly, has found himself prominently featured over the years.

A fixture of Dynamite and Collision, Cassidy saw his Continental Challenge Cup journey ended by Kyle O’Reilly earlier this month, with their Conglomerate bond continuing to AEW All In: London.

Allying Cassidy with the likes of O’Reilly and Strong is a sound move for the star, elevating what he offers, again without diminishing what he’s achieved in his own right, and allowing their camaraderie to come to the fore.

A future singles run for Cassidy seems like a good call for the star, particularly if that challenge was to come after All In, giving us the potential for him to face either Fletcher, Okada and Takeshita, three names who have proven just how intense they can be in the ring.
