AEW Star Addresses Authenticity Of On-Screen Character: ‘We Do Ham It Up a Bit’

An AEW star has addressed the authenticity of their on-screen character, admitting they ‘ham it up a bit’.

Since early this year, Jamie Hayter has been in a team with Alex Windsor, with the duo known as “The Brawling Birds”.

With the pair challenging Divine Dominion for the AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship at All In: London, Hayter has shared an insight into how true to real-life The Brawling Birds actually are during an interview with BBC News, saying:

“It’s pretty close to us in real life.

“We’re pretty tomboyish, we don’t take things too seriously and we both like going to the pub. We’re loud and boisterous but in a good way, and then you crank that up to 10 – we do ham it up a bit for an American audience.”

Windsor is the real-life wife of fellow AEW star Will Ospreay, with the Aerial Assassin recently commenting on finding the “perfect person“.

‘Turn It Up To 11’

If there’s one thing that helps with authenticity, it’s taking existing character traits and turning them up to the proverbial ‘eleven’.

Dialing up on what is already there, making it bolder and louder, stands any star in good stead when it comes to connecting with the audience.

That’s not to say that being an entirely different person is an impossibility for a star. After all, there’s many things that could happen in a wrestling storyline that might not be ‘natural’ for any particular star.

For some, the performance is natural, while it could take time for others to find their footing with whatever direction they’re going in. Finding the balance between the performance and the performer is an act in itself.
