Big AEW Name In Talks With Tony Khan For Return AEW

AEW announcer and WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has provided an update on his future in AEW following conversations with Tony Khan.

On the debut episode of AEW Collision on June 17, Ross called the show’s main event hours after suffering a fall, along with his other health issues.

Ross has been off TV since that show but has expressed a hope that he will return for AEW All In taking place in London on August 27, 2023.

He has also recently spoken about the health scare that saw him take a trip to the emergency room, confirming that his radiation wound is healing, albeit slowly.

On the latest episode of Grilling JR, Ross provided an update on his plans to return to commentary, saying:

“Tony Khan and I have talked about what I’m going to do going forward, and it looks like I’ll have a shot at getting back on Collision on Saturdays.

“That seems to be my destination, but that could change. I just know that it’s going to be a huge lifestyle change for me because those shows are live on Saturday nights.”

He would note that whilst this is the plan as far as he is aware, nothing has been made official.

With NCAA football starting next month, Ross said he was “going to make the ultimate sacrifice” as games take place on a Saturday and he is a well-known Oklahoma Sooners fan.

Balancing what could be his Saturday night commentary responsibilities with his love of the game, Ross went on to say:

“I’m gonna have to DVR my games. It’s going to restrict how many games I go to live.

“I’ve even thought about using Jacksonville as my secondary home, which it hasn’t been because of my doctors down there. Instead, I’ve had to come back to Oklahoma, and they’ve got good doctors here.”

Ross would also thank AEW management for their support during his health issues and also said that Saturday night could be a very good fit for him.

AEW Collision currently has a two-man commentary team of Nigel McGuinness and Ian Riccaboni, with Kevin Kelly being in Japan for G1 Climax 33 replaced by Riccaboni in recent weeks.

NJPW G1 Climax 33 runs from July 15 to August 13, 2023.
