AEW Match Result Changed Due To Mid-Match Injury AEW

A backstage report has revealed that a recent AEW match result was forced to be changed mid-match due to injury.

UPDATE: Ricky Starks has now provided an update on his injury status – click here for full details.

On last night’s edition of AEW Collision (March 30) the tournament to crown new AEW Tag Team Champions continued, as former title holders Ricky Starks & Big Bill took on Top Flight.

Towards the end of the match, Darius Martin had Starks pinned in a jackknife position –  Starks didn’t kick out, but Darius actually moved off the pin (expecting Starks to have kicked out) and the referee stopped his count at two.

Just a few seconds later, Martin pinned Starks again and this time it concluded the match, leading to questions over Starks’ health.

Now, courtesy of a new report from Fightful Select we have some further details on what the original plan for the bout was, and how Starks’ injury changed things.

As suspected, the sequence towards the end which saw Darius breaking up his own match-winning pin on Starks was not meant to happen, with Starks meant to kick out.

This led to an audible being called shortly thereafter, with Darius hitting a DDT on Starks to get the three-count.

The report confirmed that not only was this not the planned finish, but it was also not the planned result of the bout, with Starks and Big Bill originally scheduled to defeat Top Flight.

There are still no concrete details on Starks’ exact injury status, but we will make sure to provide further update when information becomes available.

WrestleTalk would like to extend our well-wishes to Ricky Starks in his recovery.
