IMPACT Results and Review: Final Hour

Johnny Impact defeats Killer Cross to retain the Impact World Championship

Killer Cross looked strong in defeat.  IMPACT looks strong by winning over an up and coming talent.  If you are a fan of Johnny Impact, then you probably would enjoy this match.

I’m not. In wrestling, there’s are things that don’t make sense that you have to just let go of.  I get that.  Oli and Luke talk about it all the time.  While that’s true, there’s still some things that just make it feel silly.  Johnny, to me, does a lot of that.  His countdown to Impact move where he waits for the crowd to countdown and then he does a no-hands cartwheel into an elbow drop is one of those things.

Right now, IMPACT Wrestling needs a spark.  It needs a hot angle.  Something to get people talking.  Sure, Johnny is on Survivor, but if you get any crossover viewers they’re probably going to watch his matches and roll their eyes.  He’s not a move the needle guy at the top of the card.

I guess the question is who’s the next challenger up for Johnny.  Maybe it’s Moose.  Do we see Aries show back up in Las Vegas?  I’m not sure, but IMPACT needs to find something quick.

Nate’s Take

Last week, I was pretty brutal on the overall crappiness of the backstage segments on IMPACT.  I’m not going to waste my time typing out segments about them this week.  I will say this week they were fewer and IMPACT was better off for it.  I’m giving this show 3.5 out of 5.  IMPACT provided 4 pretty solid TV matches, a good promo angle with Drake, and the Callihan/Cage fight.  The show wasn’t perfect and the in-ring action wasn’t New Japan quality, but was definitely worth watching.

Reports are that IMPACT is looking for a new TV partner.  I’m not sure where they are going to go.  100,000 viewers doesn’t seem like a great selling card.  I hope they find a new deal or get Pop to put them back in primetime.

IMPACT needs something.  They need a big signing or some angle that gets everyone needing to tune in.  They really, really needed to rebrand when they got new leadership.  Callis and company have really improved the show.  It’s a shame that more people aren’t willing to give it another shot.

If I were them, I would call up Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega.  I’d ask them what they wanted and sign my life away to get him to show up on my TV show.  I’m not sure that’s even enough at the moment, but short of convincing CM Punk to wrestle for them, I’m not sure what else they can do at the moment.  I hope they survive this latest blow of switching time slots and can find somebody willing to partner with them.

I love wrestling and the more options there are to watch it, the better the overall product is for it.  Hopefully, IMPACT can hit the jackpot in these next set of tapings in Las Vegas.
