An AEW name has explained the differences for him between working in WWE and AEW.

Earlier this year, AEW announced the signing of Nigel McGuinness to the promotion. The former ROH World Champion joined the Ring of Honor commentary team and then the AEW Collision team when that show premiered.

Prior to his signing, McGuinness had spent six years working for WWE on the NXT and NXT UK commentary teams.

Ahead of AEW All In London, Nigel McGuinness spoke with Denise Salcedo and was asked about the differences in doing commentary for WWE and AEW. He answered:

“Yeah it’s a change of pace certainly. When you work for WWE, you’re under their umbrella, which means there’s certain things you can say and certain things you can’t say or shouldn’t say as the case may be, you know.”

“In some ways, that’s good. In some ways, it’s bad. It forces you to learn and wait to say things in different ways and talk about different things.”

“Certainly, I benefitted from that and I don’t got a bad word to say about my time there. Six of the best years of my life, but now having learned what I learned there, I can now come here and expand on that.”

When asked about how hard the transition was in breaking away from things he learned before, Nigel answered:

“No it was really relatively easy to be honest with you. Because you know it’s not that all those things are bad. Because a lot of those things are good, you know.”

“There are certainly things that you’re not supposed to say or do there that I totally agree and that I brought over with me, you know.”

“But what I love here is the ability to take what you think works for you in this genre and what doesn’t you can let it fly, you know. The first time I said ‘violence’, I was like ‘Ohhhh! Fantastic!'”

AEW All In London will be this Sunday, August 27 from Wembley Stadium. The show will be headlined by MJF defending the AEW World Championship against Adam Cole.
