Scrapped Plans For Top Star To Fight Nate Diaz Before ‘WWE Got Involved’ Revealed UFC/WWE

Details have emerged on scrapped plans for former UFC star Nate Diaz to face off against a top star, before WWE interfered with proceedings.

WWE will hold its biggest event of the summer, SummerSlam 2023, this Saturday (August 5). On the same night, Nate Diaz will step into the boxing ring to fight Jake Paul.

Jake Paul is notably the younger brother of Logan Paul, an influencer who will be competing at SummerSlam.

Speaking with ESPN, president of Diaz’ Real Fight Inc, Zach Rosenfield stated that at one point there was a “very interesting and attractive offer” for Nate Diaz to fight Logan Paul.

Diaz ultimately soured on the idea of this match after WWE then got involved.

Diaz noted the following to ESPN:

“The WWE came in and then they wanted to take over the whole thing. I’m like, ‘I just got out of the UFC, why am I going to sign with WWE?’

“I fight for real. I’m not gonna be doing a real fight on a WWE card or no funny s**t like that.”

Logan Paul responded to Diaz’ comments, calling his reason for not wanting the fight a ‘weak cop out’ before noting:

“You can still be a real fighter with the biggest sports organization in the world promoting your fight. It’s a little lame to me, and I can definitely sell more tickets.

“I see what he’s doing. I’m the harder fight. I’m the bigger brother, I’m the stronger brother, I’m the faster brother.”

WWE often touts Logan Paul as a major attraction, with Logan’s only matches with the company so far taking place at major WWE premium live events.

Logan first signed with WWE in 2022, before re-signing with the company following his match against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 39 in April.

Logan Paul’s boxing record isn’t the most consistent, with the star earning a draw and a loss to his now-friend KSI in their 2018 and 2019 bouts, before surviving an exhibition bout against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather in 2021.

The influencer/boxer/WWE wrestler was preparing for his boxing return before an injury at Crown Jewel 2022 forced him to delay his fighting comeback.

Logan will make his boxing return on October 14 on the same Misfits Boxing card that will see KSI face off against Tommy Fury, the younger brother of lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Ahead of then, Logan will face off against Ricochet at SummerSlam 2023.
