World Cup scheduled for WWE Crown Jewel

World Cup scheduled for WWE Crown Jewel

Last night on Raw, WWE confirmed its long-expected return to Saudi Arabia on November 2 with a WWE Network and pay-per-view special called Crown Jewel.

A three-way for the WWE Universal Title between Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar was the first match announced. It was confirmed by Baron Corbin on Raw last night following an angle at the conclusion of HIAC.

The other expected bout in the works for Crown Jewel is a monster tag match pitting legendary duos D-Generation X (Triple H and Shawn Michaels) and the Brothers of Destruction (The Undertaker and Kane) against each other for the first time.

WWE has also announced at a special World Cup tournament will take place on the Saudi supershow.

No names have been confirmed yet for the one-night tournament, but early indications are that it will be a modern day successor to the King of the Ring. The World Cup is expected to feature between eight and 16 WWE performers of various nationalities competing for the trophy.

Outside of tournaments for vacant titles, WWE has not presented a one-night tournament on pay-per-view since King of the Ring 2002, which was won by Brock Lesnar. Vince McMahon is famously adverse to tournaments, despite WWE presenting several of them in the past few years.

However, money talks. McMahon has shown he is more than willing to put business before personal preference to keep the Saudis happy.
