WWE ‘Baffled’ By Tony Khan’s Booking Of AEW Star

People in WWE are reportedly “baffled” by how Tony Khan has been booking one particular AEW star on television as of late.

Last night’s July 29 episode of AEW Dynamite at the Masonic Temple in Detroit played host to a TBS Championship match that saw Maya World retain her title against CMLL Women’s World Champion Persephone.

A lot was made a number of months ago over WWE being interested in signing Persephone after she inked a dual contract with AEW and CMLL.

It seems that interest remains and WWE is currently “baffled” at how AEW CEO Tony Khan has been using her as of late.

On today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez reported:

“I have heard from many people in WWE who are just baffled at Tony’s usage of Persephone.

“They’re just like, ‘What’s this guy doing?’

“She’s got so much potential. If her deal comes due, WWE’s gonna want her instantly.

“Meanwhile, all she does is show up on TV and do jobs as the CMLL Women’s Champion.”

Persephone’s situation has been likened to that of Stephanie Vaquer as she’s a big talent in Mexico that WWE seemed to gain interest in after she was spotlighted in AEW and specifically matches against Mercedes Mone.

This time, AEW made sure Persephone didn’t go straight to WWE by signing her to the dual contract, but it remains to be seen whether she’ll make the move in the future.

WWE of course elevated Vaquer very quickly, crowning her a double champion in NXT before going on to win the Women’s World Championship after just a few months on the main roster.
