Current WWE Star Behind Dolph Ziggler’s Surprise NJPW Debut WWE

Nic Nemeth, familiar to fans as Dolph Ziggler, recently made his NJPW and a WWE star helped to orchestrate the whole thing!

Ziggler was released by WWE in September 2023 after almost two decades with the company and made his New Japan debut at Wrestle Kingdom 18 in January 2024.

Speaking on Talk is Jericho, Nemeth revealed how Shinsuke Nakamura was behind the debut, saying:

“A long time ago, I was like, every time a contract comes up, I’m like, ‘Alright, I’m gonna get out of here.’

“And he [Nakamura] goes, ‘If you ever get out of here, you know, I got some connections and I would like to help you out as well.’”

The connections would lead to Rocky Romero, who acted as an intermediary, with Nemeth going on to talk about what happened after his WWE departure, explaining:

“So the first thing I want to do is like, man, I’ve never done independents. I haven’t gone out of the country, except for with WWE.

“I go, I’m still friends with Shin. ‘Hey, Shin, do you think I’m so good at wrestling?’ And he laughed.

“I was like, ‘What do you think about Japan and he’s like, ‘I got you’ and then put a couple pieces together and get to Rocky Romero, who is the go-between.

“Luckily for me, they were happy and excited to have me that was one of the first things I did when I got released.”

In 2024, Nemeth has appeared on TNA iMPACT facing Zachary Wentz and Trey Miguel in separate matches.

His NJPW debut saw him appear alongside Ryan Nemeth, currently signed to AEW, as the pair watched the IWGP & NJPW STRONG tag title Winner Takes All match.

As can be seen below, Nic Nemeth came face to face with Bullet Club War Dogs leader David Finlay.
