WWE are reportedly interested in signing Persephone when her AEW and CMLL dual contract expires.
With La Catalina making the jump from CMLL to WWE AAA last week, could we soon see another star cross over between promotions?
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE are discussing potentially signing Persephone when her dual AEW and CMLL contract expires:
Those in WWE are already talking about trying to get Persephone when her dual contract expires later this year.
It’s not clear when Persephone’s dual AEW & CMLL deal will be expiring, with the 24-year-old only confirmed to be signed to such a deal in January this year alongside Mascara Dorada and Hechicero.
While she had competed in ROH beforehand, Persephone’s biggest exposure came at AEW Forbidden Door 2025, when she, along with Alex Windsor and Bozilla competed in a four-way for Mercedes Moné’s AEW TBS Championship.
Even though she didn’t defeat Moné for the TBS Championship, she did eventually dethrone “The CEO” for the CMLL Women’s World Title in March, a title she has since defended in ROH.
Persephone’s most recent match on AEW TV was again for the TBS Championship, this time unsuccessfully challenging Willow Nightingale for the gold on the March 11 episode of Dynamite.
Could Persephone Follow In Stephanie Vaquer’s Footsteps?
While it remains to be seen if Persephone eventually lands in WWE, the company’s pursuit of her would be somewhat reminiscent of their signing of former CMLL Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer in 2024.
After well over a decade competing in promotions across the world, Vaquer, like Persephone, gained major exposure in the United States at AEW’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view, where she took on Mercedes Moné for both the NJPW STRONG Women’s Title and AEW TBS Championship.
Vaquer lost the bout, but just one month later she signed with WWE after receiving a contract offer from both them and AEW.
“La Primera” has since become one of WWE’s top female stars, winning the NXT Women’s North American Championship, NXT Championship and WWE Women’s World Title within her first year competing on TV.
Vaquer is now set to walk into her first WrestleMania as Women’s World Champion, defending her gold against 2026 Women’s Royal Rumble winner Liv Morgan on Night One of “The Grandest Stage of Them All.”
At just 24, Persephone may have a slower climb up the WWE ladder than Vaquer, however, given just how successful the Chilean star has been in a short amount of time, it’s not difficult to see why stars may be tempted to follow a similar path.
With AAA now a part of WWE, it seems likelier that Persephone, like CMLL alum La Catalina, may first arrive there rather than get a move straight to WWE NXT, Raw or SmackDown.
We will provide further updates on the future of Persephone as more information becomes available.
