With her WWE NXT debut in the history books, Lizzy Rain has opened up about her relationship with the late Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr.
Lizzy Rain was one of a number of debuts on last night’s episode of WWE NXT, defeating Nikkita Lyons and making her presence felt with her distinctive heavy metal music styling.
Having been introduced to fans last week, Rain revealed that the jacket she wore during her first vignette belonged to the late Clive Burr, her real-life uncle and former drummer for Iron Maiden.
During a recent appearance on Busted Open After Dark, Rain shared more insight into the relationship she had with her late uncle and how he inspired her, saying:
“Clive, he inspired me so much. To be honest, when I was younger, I didn’t really know who he was. He died, I think it’s 13 years ago now, something like that, so I was 15 years old. And when I was growing up, and he was well, he died from MS (multiple sclerosis), unfortunately so he wasn’t very well by the time I got into my teens, he was not verbal or anything.
“When I was younger and around him I didn’t have a clue who he was. I liked music, I always liked Alice Cooper, I always liked Iron Maiden but as a child I didn’t really know, ‘Oh, my uncle is the original drummer of Iron Maiden,’ until I got into my teens.
“We had a relationship but as I said he was very unwell, so I didn’t really get to ask him these incredible questions, ‘What was band life like? What was tour like?’ And all that sort of stuff. I really wish I got to, but he inspired me so much, and I think it obviously runs through my blood. I love metal music, it’s a genuine, genuine love, it’s not just because my uncle is the original drummer, it’s always been a genuine love. I have a brother who’s eight years older than me, and we always listened to KISS, Guns N’ Roses, (Iron) Maiden, Def Leppard, anything like that. We just love it.”

Burr passed away on March 12, 2013 at the age of 57, having been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the late 1990s.
High Hopes For New WWE Star
Previously known as Rayne Leverkusen on the independent scene, the new WWE star was named the MVP of the tryouts back at SummerSlam last year.
While she wasn’t signed at the time, WWE Performance Center Head Trainer Matt Bloom praised her, noting she was “someone who just raised the bar”.
Her performance in the tryouts led to Leverkusen signing with WWE earlier this year, with “The Maiden of Metal” being reborn as Lizzy Rain, keeping her rock music persona, turned up to eleven for the NXT audience.
In her native England, Leverkusen held multiple championships on the independent wrestling scene, something will no doubt be seeking to replicate in NXT.
