WWE
A new version of Los Perros Del Mal debuted in AAA recently, with WWE producer Jeremy Borash being believed to be behind the creative.
The June 20 episode of AAA saw Los Perros del Mal appear, making their presence felt by attacking El Grande Americano.
With the group consisting of NXT’s Karmen Petrovic, Bronco Nima and Daga, along with SmackDown’s Angel and Berto, whose uncle, Hector Garza, featured in the original stable, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided details of how the group came to be in WWE AAA.
According to Dave Meltzer, the faction was “on the list of planned big angles for a year”, with Jeremy Borash seemingly behind the creative decision, writing:
“I believe the idea came from Jeremy Borash, but it’s been on the list of big angles for a year.”
Referencing the make-up of the new iteration of Perros del Mal, Meltzer would also state:
“Los Perros Del Mal were basically the NWO or Bullet Club of Mexico about 20 years ago, with Perro Aguayo Jr. as Hogan and Hector Garza as Hall & Nash.
“Angel & Berto are both nephews of Hector Garza. Daga was the original member of the group, and Petrovic, in fact, is to be Taya.”
As for who owns the rights to the faction, Meltzer would suggest:
“I believe that the owner of the rights to Perros Del Mal is the wrestler Khan del Mal.”
Meltzer would note that the origins of the faction was in CMLL, heading to AAA in 2010, with Daga having served in the group during its previous incarnation.
The Brains Behind The Scenes In AAA
In April of last year, it was announced that WWE had acquired the Mexico-based AAA promotion.
Since then, WWE names have taken up prominent roles backstage, with The Undertaker “helping out with creative“.
AAA goes beyond just the WWE Hall of Famer, however, with Jeremy Borash joined by Pete Dunne in a producer capacity, and both Triple H and Shawn Michaels also involved.
Dunne was identified as the producer for the mask vs. mask match, which saw Chad Gable give up the El Grande Americano persona.
Konnan, a long-serving backstage entity in AAA, has previously revealed that WWE’s involvement has seen his role divided among a number of others, having been the one to oversee every aspect from producing matches through to agenting everything.
Noting that the WWE names are “top-notch guys that know what they’re doing”, it doesn’t appear that Konnan misses those days of being across absolutely everything backstage.
