WWE Star Turning Heel Soon?

WWE Star Turning Heel Soon? WWE

In the main event of tonight’s NXT Great American Bash premium live event, there were a number of insane spots as Carmelo Hayes defended his NXT Championship.

However, the bigger story might be that between Hayes and long-time partner Trick Williams.

The match between Hayes and challenger Ilja Dragunov was an incredible one, with many fans calling it a match of the year contender, and in the end it was Hayes who managed to retain his title.

Hayes had Trick Williams in his corner, and towards the end of the match, Williams grabbed the NXT Championship belt to give Hayes a pep talk, insisting it was “the fourth quarter” and asked Hayes if he was a fraud or a champion.

It may have proven to be the belt itself that added extra insult to injury in the final sequence as Ilja Dragunov made a big running head butt into Trick Williams (who was still holding the title belt) after Carmelo Hayes moved out of the way.

While the move put Williams in peril, it gave the champ an opening as Dragunov had ended up hurting his head on the belt.

Carmelo Hayes then rolled Dragunov back into the ring, going to the top rope to hit his Nothing But Net finisher and secure the pinfall victory to retain his WWE NXT Championship.

Coupled with hints over the past several weeks of Williams getting a bigger spotlight, a pre-match interview tonight where Williams placed a HUGE emphasis on his friendship with Hayes – to the point it was clearly designed to make you think about them possibly splitting up – and his involvement in the finish of the match, it seems possible that we may see Williams turn on Hayes (or even vice versa) sooner or later.

Williams did celebrate with Hayes after the match without incident as the show went off the air, but the signs are there.

Elsewhere so far at NXT Great American Bash, there was a title change to kick off the night and a women’s ‘Weapons Wild’ match.

There was also an unexpected finish to the WWE in-ring debut of Gable Steveson and a fan favorite faction teased a split.
