A WWE star has reflected on a recent joke he made on social media, which is now set to become a reality this week.
The tournament on WWE SmackDown to crown the next challenger for the United States Championship is underway, with Bobby Lashley defeating Karrion Kross and Santos Escobar defeating Dragon Lee on last week’s show.
The tournament will continue on this week’s show, with Kevin Owens taking on Austin Theory, and Grayson Waller being set to face a mystery ‘NXT superstar’.
Before the announcement of which NXT star would be in the tournament, former NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes shared a picture of him holding the old ‘spinner’ United States Championship, teasing that he would be the participant in the tournament.
Following his win over Lexis King at NXT Deadline, Shawn Michaels announced that it would indeed be Hayes in the tournament, with him set to take on Grayson Waller on this week’s SmackDown.
Reacting to the match announcement, Hayes revealed that he was simply joking when he shared the picture of him with the title, but it since came to fruition.
He said:
I was just joking when I posted myself with the US spinner title, now I’m forreal in the tournament. I don’t miss
Hayes has been the center of a story surrounding a mystery attacker on NXT, with many believing him to be the culprit of who attacked Trick Williams.
Grayson Waller has reacted to his upcoming match with Hayes on SmackDown, which you can see here.
