A WWE star has heaped praise on the company for recruiting athletes with non-wrestling backgrounds.

One of WWE NXT’s biggest success stories in recent years has been Sol Ruca, who arrived in the company in March 2022 without any prior wrestling experience and has since developed into a multi-time champion and potential future main roster star.

Appearing on What’s Your Story? With Stephanie McMahon, Ruca praised WWE for taking a chance on athletes who lack wrestling experience beforehand:

“I think them bringing in athletes is really really cool. I think it’s giving a lot of us athletes that didn’t have the option to go pro, like there’s no pro gymnastics.

“I see a lot of athletes just going back to normal jobs that they’re not necessarily in love with because there’s really nothing else for them to do in athletics and sports.

“But this has opened up a whole new world for athletes to continue doing what they love and continue performing.”

Ruca arrived in WWE in March 2022 with a background in gymnastics and tumbling and made her in-ring debut three months later.
