A former WWE Tag Team Champion has revealed the origins of the Damien Mizdow gimmick that saw them team up with The Miz.
In August 2014, Damien Sandow was ‘hired’ by The Miz and would go on to act as the movie star character’s stunt double.
Now known as Aron Stevens, the former WWE star has revealed how this whole gimmick came about.
Speaking to the Lazy Booking Podcast, Stevens revealed that he was bored when he decided to mimic The Miz, with Vince McMahon noting their interactions backstage, saying:
“I was on Raw, they put me with The Miz. I got bored and I said ‘Well, I’m just gonna do something,’ and I started imitating him.
“I get to the back and Vince (McMahon) says ‘Come here.’ ‘Yes, how can I help you, boss?’ ‘That stuff you did, what was that?’ ‘Well I’m his understudy, his stunt double, I have to study out there, right?’
“The Miz and I, we’d have a game plan on some things, but live TV, pay-per-views, 80% of our stuff was called out there. He would do something and I would do it.
“Especially now when everything is overproduced, I’d argue that it was overproduced then in a lot of ways, I think Mizdow was a break because I was allowed to be in the moment.”

The Miz and Damien Mizdow would go on to win the WWE Tag Team Champoinship at Survivor Series in November 2014.
They would lose the titles the following month to The Usos, with their split being heralded by The Miz demoting Sandow to a personal assistant role.
Sandow would be released from his WWE contract in May 2016 and continues to compete in NWA where he has held the National Championship and World Tag Team Championship.
