Chris Jericho WWE Return Scrapped?
One name that was missing from SummerSlam was former WWE Intercontinental Champion and current IWGP Intercontinental Champion, Chris Jericho. Although it could just be that he’s stocking up on sunscreen ahead of his Rock n Wrestling Rager at Sea, the man himself has given another excuse during an episode of his Talk is Jericho podcast.
According to Jericho, he had proposed an inter-brand match between NJPW and WWE, pitting himself against Seth Rollins in a champion vs champion match.
“I placed a call to a certain head of a certain wrestling company, let’s just leave it at that. I said I’ve got something for you. It’s boffo box office. I said what do you think about first-time Intercontinental Champion vs Intercontinental Champion Jericho vs. Rollins?”
Jericho explained that his idea was that he would appear on the Raw before SummerSlam to attack Rollins to set up the match, and that when he suggested the idea to Vince, he got a decent response. However, he never heard back from anyone and instead we got Rollins vs Ziggler in arguably the match of the night.
Jericho’s big stage in-ring return was also scrapped before WrestleMania earlier this year, when he revealed he had been lined up as Shane McMahon’s replacement after the SD Live commissioner suffered an injury. Shane recovered in time however and Jericho was not needed.
