According to Fightful’s backstage sources, WWE is pulling Mustafa Ali from the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match due to a catalog of recent injuries.
Ali was already suffering from an injured tailbone, which was aggravated at Royal Rumble. This past week on SmackDown he suffered another injury, taking the full brunt of Randy Orton’s Garvin Stomp to the eye when he moved his head mid-move and collided with Randy’s boot, leaving him with a nasty black eye.
The injury was apparently worsened on last night’s house show and now WWE doctors are unlikely to clear the former 205 Live star in time for the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. Ali wants to work the show but WWE officials are being quite rightly cautious.
The current plan is for WWE to run a storyline that blames Orton for Ali’s injuries and uses them as a way to take him out of the match. It is unclear at this stage who, if anyone, will replace Ali in the six-way bout.
Let’s hope Ali is able to make a speedy recovery and can resume his recent TV push when he returns rather than WWE holding this against him, as can sometimes be the case.
